The following is a report of the Douglas County Public Utility District Commission meeting that was held on November 20, 2000.
The Commissioners approved the funding request of North Central Educational Service District, NCESD, in the amount of $42,729 for the 2000 – 2001 school year. In effect since 1988, agreements between Douglas PUD and NCESD have been established to provide educational curriculum for every kindergarten, first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and seventh grade student in Douglas County. Classes pertain to electrical generation, distribution, conservation, safety, and water. In addition, a fifth or sixth grade curriculum includes some Douglas County history, geology, and a tour of the Wells Hydroelectric Project.
An emergency was declared by the Commission waiving normal bid law requirements that will allow replacing the neutral bushing in transformer no. 2 located at the Wells Hydroelectric Project. Recent indicators have shown potential problems with that bushing. Its failure would cause extended damage to the transformer and associated equipment. ABB Power TD Company, Inc. acquired all of the drawings and specifications from GE, the manufacturer. As such, ABB is the only known service provider available to perform the necessary repairs within Douglas PUDs required timeframe. ABB has estimated cost of the repairs at $12,000.
