The following is a report of the Douglas County Public Utility District Commission meeting which was held on July 26, 1999.
The Commissioners recognized Steve Early, Chief Operator, for his 20 years of service to Douglas County PUD. Commission President Mike Doneen thanked Early for his many years of dedicated service to the customers of the PUD. Early thanked the Commission saying how much he appreciated his employment with Douglas PUD.
A presentation was made to the Commission by Ms. Deena Jenkins of the Mansfield School District and Dr. Jack Horne of the North Central Educational Service District (NCESD). The two educators had asked to attend a Commission meeting to express their gratitude to the Commissioners for their sponsorship of the newly created Project H.E.A.T., (History, Energy and Technology). The curriculum is directed towards Douglas County fourth and fifth grade students and is a collaboration of all Douglas County School Districts, the Douglas County Museum, the NCESD, and Douglas PUD. The experience starts with a tour of the museum, and includes a section on rocks and minerals. Project H.E.A.T. concludes with a tour of the Wells Hydroelectric Project.
Draft tube compressor No. 3 at the Wells Hydroelectric Project is in need of repair. Cascade Machinery and Electric Supply, Inc. has previously overhauled three draft tube compressors from the Wells Hydroelectric Project. After repairs, the three were returned to service and have operated well for almost 20 years. The Commissioners declared Cascade Machinery Electric Supply, Inc. the single source of supply for the repair of draft tube compressor No. 3 at a cost that is not to exceed $11,250.
The Commissioners authorized the extension of an Agreement for Professional Services with the Colville Confederated Tribes for the period of 1999-2000. This contract is a requirement of Douglas PUDs Long-Term Fish Settlement Agreement. It provides for the operation of the Cassimer Bar Hatchery. The budget for this period is in the amount of $208,744, - a 7.7% decrease from last years budget. This extension covers the period ending June 30, 2000.
