Douglas PUD Commission Meeting Report

The following is a report of the Douglas County Public Utility District Commission meeting, which was held on December 14, 1998.

The Downing Townsite is located approximately three miles west of Bridgeport. Residents living there are in the process of seeking funding for the acquisition, improvement, construction, and operation and maintenance of a water system to serve their local area. To be known as the Downing Townsite Water District, the water district will initially include 52 customers and a trailer park. In order to obtain the needed public funding, the water district must retain a public entity for its billing and collection services. The commission authorized an interlocal cooperative agreement that will serve that purpose.

Douglas PUD has a two-year contract with Asplundh Tree Expert Company for tree trimming services throughout the county. The first year has been completed with total expenditures amounting to $183,629.62. All of Asplundhs work has been inspected and approved by staff personnel. The Commissioners agreed and approved the final payment to Asplundh.

Bids for the 1998-fall sale of miscellaneous scrap and surplus metal materials were opened at Douglas PUD on December 11, 1998. Calbag Metals Company provided the only bid for the materials, which was in the amount of $14,782.65. The Portland, Oregon firm bid was found to be fair and reasonable by staff members who recommended approval of the sale to the commission. The Commissioners agreed and gave approval for the award.

The Foundation for Water and Energy Education, FWEE, is an organization consisting of utilities, various organizations, and businesses with the mission of providing balanced information regarding the use of water as a clean and renewable energy resource in the Northwest. Douglas PUD has been a member of FWEE since the inception of the group four years ago. The PUD membership in FWEE is based on the generation at the Wells Hydroelectric Project and has always amounted to $5,870. The Commission agreed to continue the FWEE membership for the year 1999.
