Douglas County PUD Commissioner MIKE DONEEN
RECEIVES NATIONAL PUBLIC POWER AWARD
WASHINGTON, D.C., June 26, 2007 — Mike Doneen, commissioner, Douglas County Public Utility District in East Wenatchee, Wash., received the American Public Power Association’s (APPA) James D. Donovan Individual Achievement Award at the association’s National Conference in San Antonio, Texas. The award was initiated in 1959 and recognizes those who have made great individual contributions to the electric utility industry and to public power.
Doneen has dedicated his life to public power. His leadership at Douglas County PUD and in the northwest has been a shining example of public power excellence. Doneen was elected to the PUD Board of Commissioners on Dec.1, 1964, and continued to serve in this capacity until his scheduled retirement on Dec. 31, 2006. At retirement, having held the office of commissioner for 42 plus years, Mike was the senior PUD commissioner in the State of Washington.
Under Doneen’s leadership, Douglas County PUD has enjoyed tremendous infrastructure growth and development. His contributions to state and regional organizations include active involvement with the Washington PUD Association, of which he was president in 1977, and the Northwest Public Power Association, where he was the first vice president for 1990-1991 and served as president in 1992. In 2001, Doneen was honored on the APPA Honor Roll for his significant local contributions to public power, which have enhanced public power’s prestige nationally.
