GENERAL INFORMATION: Applicants must have satisfactorily completed a minimum 3-year electrical lineman apprenticeship program, tested for and received a Journeyman Lineman card. Applicants must have completed a high school education either through school attendance or equivalent. Applicants must have a valid Washington State “Class A” combination driver license with an air brake endorsement, current first aid/CPR cards, and a flagging card or be willing to obtain them in a timely manner. Applicants must have the ability to communicate in a clear, concise, courteous manner with the general public and work amiably with fellow workers. They must also be capable of passing a written and physical test on District qualifications and be able to distinguish basic colors. The successful applicant must either reside in, or establish residence in a timely manner, in the Bridgeport area.
DUTIES: Some of the regular duties of the position include, but are not limited to: the operation of line trucks, bucket trucks, wirepullers, tensioners and backhoes in a safe and proficient manner. The successful candidate will be required to “frame”, install, remove, relocate, and aerial frame all types of wood structures. He/she will be required to install, “bank” together, and remove all types of overhead and pad mount transformers. The Journeyman Lineman perform work on voltage regulators, reclosures, pad mount switch gear, capacitors, oil circuit breakers, and gang switches. When working on energized circuits he/she must be proficient with the “hot stick method” on primary voltages and the “gloved method” on secondary voltages. The Journeyman Lineman must possess a background in electrical theory in order to understand the operation and trouble-shooting of electrical distribution and transmission systems. He/she will be required to perform work on fiber optic cable and tree trimming in a safe manner. He/she must be capable of performing work on meter bases and have the ability to identify customer problems. A Lineman Foreman, under the direction of the Operations Superintendent, will supervise the work of the Journeyman Linemen. The successful applicant must become a member of Local No. 77, I.B.E.W. within 30 days of employment. There is a one-year probationary period associated with this position.
